NSW Children’s Week opens with a family picnic in the glorious Botanic Gardens.

To mark the launch of NSW Children’s Week on Sunday October 22, the NSW Children’s Week Association in collaboration with the Royal Botanic Garden is hosting the inaugural NSW Children’s Week Family Picnic.

The free event from 10.30am till 2pm will include a range of activities including storytelling, roving entertainers, seed planting and a mud kitchen.  Families will also be able to participate in the fun nature trail experience to discover some of the delights of the garden for children. In addition our friends from Reverse Garbage will be joining us for some workshop activities.

Families and friends are invited to put on their play clothes, pack a picnic lunch and bring their children for a relaxing day of fun, play and celebration.

NSW Children’s Week Association Chairperson, Robyn Monro Miller said that the picnic will be an opportunity for all people to come together to acknowledge and celebrate our children.

NSW Children’s Week 2017 will be celebrated from Sunday 22 October through to Sunday 29 October. Children’s Week is celebrated annually to mark Australia’s ratification of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

NSW Children’s Week Ambassador, Mr Andrew Johnson, the Advocate for Children and Young People said that Children’s Week is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of realising child rights.

“Children’s Week is a time to reflect on ensuring that we are doing all we can to ensure the rights of children are realised.”

“A lot of great work is being done in NSW and it is important that we all continue to work to ensure that all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential,” Mr Johnson added.
